Community Service

We find ways to improve the quality of life and serve the interests of the people in our communities.  We use our knowledge of local issues to identify areas of need, and then apply our expertise and diverse perspectives to find a solution.

Rotary members are at work in our community to feed the hungry, tutor children, maintain parks and playgrounds, and much more.  Since 1974 the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor has been involved in improving our community.  Community Service projects are funded on an annual basis from funds raised by the club during the previous Rotary Year.

Great care is taken to identify projects that will be of significant impact to the community.

We take the following under consideration:

  • Improve the quality of life of our neighbors in the community (e.g. food, shelter, safety, and structural and environmental improvements).
  • Assist those in need.
  • Improve the educational opportunities for our children and adults.
  • Improve recreational opportunities for our community.
  • Improve the infrastructure in our community.
  • Improve the safety of our community.
  • Allow the club to partner with others in the community.
  • Provide hands-on experiences for the club members.
  • Provide for club fellowship during the performance of the project.

Here are just a few of the projects we have undertaken over the years:

Skansie Brothers Park Flag Pole

We installed the original flag pole and have maintained the flag ever since Skansie Brothers Park was established.

Skansie Brothers Pavilion

We built the pavilion at Skansie Brothers Park, a cornerstone of the Historic Gig Harbor downtown waterfront. The Pavilion is host to the summer concerts in the park series, the farmers market, as well as many community gatherings.

Harbor History Museum School House

Restored the one room schoolhouse at the Harbor History Museum and built the courtyard around the school.

We helped build and sponsored the Rotary Bark Park in Gig Harbor.

Downtown Waterfront Flower Baskets

Partner with the Downtown Waterfront Alliance to water and maintain the flower baskets along the downtown waterfront corridor during summer months.
